The
Business
Sarome UK is a partnership between two partners Mike Davies and James Barber.
They both have retail shops, web sites and mail order businesses of their own.
The business was set up at the start of 2004 after securing the distribution of
Sarome lighters, smoking accessories and men’s gift for the UK and Ireland. The
business also imports a large variety of smoking accessories and men’s gifts for
distribution in the UK.
The partners established the business using their retailing knowledge to supply
retailers with good quality products, well packaged and at good prices. The
partners have packaged their products so they sell well in a retail environment
and help retailers display the goods in a better manner so higher sales are
achieved. This has also entailed helping retailers with their point of sale and
display materials. Both partners have established a good reputation in the
specialist tobacconist business from the work they have done for the trade and
the awards they have won which has made the selling to the trade more effective.
The Partners
James Barber has run his shop since 1978 and the business was established
in 1867 by his grandfather. His shop is the oldest specialist tobacconist in the
UK. In 1995 he was the first specialist tobacconist retailer to launch a web
site and established his business as the leading web site for pipes which have
been sold around the world. In some years he has sold more Dunhill pipes than
the Dunhill shop in London. He is the past and youngest (at 36) Chairman of the
Association of Independent Specialist Tobacconists in the UK and still on the
Committee advising on websites in consultation with the Government about
possible restrictions on websites. James has also been awarded Pipe Retailer of
the year and nominated for the Havana Retailer of the Year.
Mike Davies
has three retail specialist tobacconist shops in Bath, Oxford and Cambridge.
Mike established himself as one of the leaders in the mail order business as
specialist tobacconist in the UK and also has a web site to back this up. Mike
is the current Vice Chairman of The Association of Independent Specialist
Tobacconists and due to become Chairman later this year. He has represented the
specialist tobacconists with consultations with Government over the last 5 years
with reference to all the new legislation on tobacco products. Mike has won the
Pipe Retailer of the Year and Havana Retailer of the Year and was nominated for
World Retailer in Havana Cigars in Cuba and came second.
